Overview

Organizations throughout the world are increasingly concerned about achieving and demonstrating sound environmental performance in the international community. These organizations look to demonstrate their performance by committing to sound environmental policies and performance programmes.

This international Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Series in support of these worldwide concerns was released in September, 2015, by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The ISO 14001:2015 Standard has been set up to work in conjunction of an already existing and functioning documented management system, in particular the ISO 9001; however, it is, itself, a free-standing Standard not requiring any connections with other Standards.

The basic premise for the EMS series is that every organization already has a relationship with the environment. And ... this relationship is unique to each organization. The organization must therefore, in conforming to ISO 14001, first understand its relationship with the environment, and then, work to improve its relationship by actively and effectively working toward better performance within the environment.

The ISO 14000 Family is for any organization that wishes to:

  • Implement, maintain and improve an Environmental Management System,
  • Environmental Management System Model,
  • Assure itself of the conformance with its stated environmental policy,
  • Demonstrate its conformance to others,
  • Seek certification / registration of its Environmental Management System by an external organization,
  • Make a self-determination and declaration of conformance with the standard.

This course examines these issues, identifies areas Environmental Management Systems must review to ensure conformance, and assists Environmental Management Systems during their development.

This course contains one workshop designed to examine and explore the ISO 14001:2015 Standard.
